What is it that makes you hate me so?
It's seems to have started long ago.
Is it the color of my skin or the guilt that you have for selling off my kin?
You brought me here on a ship to do your work
you sold me you raped my woman and today you still kill my children.
What have I done for you to treat me this way?
You call youself the master race to any God fearing man you are just a discrace.
I can't hate you for my God won't allow me too. I will pray for you and let only God judge you..

Magdalen Walks
by Oscar Wilde

The little white clouds are racing over the sky,
And the fields are strewn with the gold of the flower of March,
The daffodil breaks under foot, and the tasselled larch
Sways and swings as the thrush goes hurrying by.

A delicate odour is borne on the wings of the morning breeze,
The odour of deep wet grass, and of brown new-furrowed earth,
The birds are singing for joy of the Spring's glad birth,
Hopping from branch to branch on the rocking trees.

And all the woods are alive with the murmur and sound of Spring,
And the rose-bud breaks into pink on the climbing briar,
And the crocus-bed is a quivering moon of fire
Girdled round with the belt of an amethyst ring.

And the plane to the pine-tree is whispering some tale of love

Till it rustles with laughter and tosses its mantle of green,
And the gloom of the wych-elm's hollow is lit with the iris sheen
Of the burnished rainbow throat and the silver breast of a dove.

See! the lark starts up from his bed in the meadow there,
Breaking the gossamer threads and the nets of dew,
And flashing adown the river, a flame of blue!
The kingfisher flies like an arrow, and wounds the air.

Joel Klein, Condi Rice, and the Military-Business-Education Reform Complex | Common Dreams

Joel Klein, Condi Rice, and the Military-Business-Education Reform Complex | Common Dreams:

"The panel started its work in April 2011 and was charged, according to the council’s Web site, with “evaluating the U.S. public education system within the context of national security.”"

Klein, believing that public education should be run like a business, launched a flurry of initiatives in his eight-year tenure as tenure as chancellor before he resigned in 2010 after it was revealed that the standardized test scores that he kept pointing to as proof of the success of his reforms were based on increasingly easy exams.
Rice has expressed her admiration for Bush’s key education initiative No Child Left Behind, which ushered in the current era of high-stakes testing that is helping to make an already troubled public education system into a real mess. “I liked the way that he thought about education,” she said late last year on NPR. (At this point, there aren’t many people who like the way Bush thought about education.)

Quote of the Day
March 6, 2012

'We're sending a message to the President of the United
States that we support your approach, to Congress that
we support the President, and to Israel and other
validators for a pragmatic foreign policy to say, let's
exercise prudence instead of ramping up the war
option.

'Unless we or an ally is attacked, war should be the
option of last resort. Our brave servicemen and women
expect you to exhaust all diplomatic and peaceful
options before you send them into harm's way.

'Military action at this stage is not only unnecessary,
it is dangerous - for the United States and for Israel.
We urge you to resist the pressure of a war of choice
with Iran.'

My Friend Amy: Review The Messenger by Siri Mitchell

My Friend Amy:

"I also thought, in light of all the Invisible Children stuff going on, that there was a fantastic side story about the Friends and how they didn't approve of slavery and how they chose to express that. While Hannah would go on and on to the slave who accompanied her about how she deserved to be free, and Hannah's father would throw fits at the house they were staying at about the slaves they kept, this ultimately made things harder for the slaves they were purportedly trying to help."

"Red Shambhala: Magic, Prophecy, and Geopolitics in the Heart of Asia"

COMMUNIST RUSSIA'S UNTOLD OCCULT CRUSADE!

RED SHAMBHALA (Quest Books • June 2011 • ISBN 978-0-8356-0891-6)
With all the action and suspense of a bestselling mystery novel, Red Shambhala takes you on a thrilling journey into the underground occult agenda of the 1920's Soviet Secret Police. Using historical archives and primary documents, former Library of Congress historian and Professor Andrei Znamenski reveals the strange accounts of the Bolsheviks' clandestine quest for ultimate power.

Red Shambhala details the zealous Bolshevik commissar Gleb Bokii's and renowned occult writer Alexander Barchenko's attempts to use Tibetan Buddhist wisdom to conjure a divine era of Communism by tapping into a power of mysterious Shambhala, a prophecy about a land of pure mystical bliss where inhabitants enjoyed god-like capabilities .

This romantic dream also caught the attention of other die-hard revolutionaries, staunch nationalists and Theosophical occultists, forging a most unlikely 20th century enterprise. Bolshevik secret police, Tibetan lamas, the famed occult couple Nicholas and Helena Roerich, and the right-wing fanatic baron Roman von Ungern-Sternberg known as "Bloody White" embarked in unison on dangerous quests through Mongolia, Tibet and farther to the Himalayas. Despite their different agendas, they pursued the same goal: to use the potent power of Tibetan-Buddhist prophecies. For all these impassioned crusaders victory meant bringing the dawn of perfect man and obtaining the keys to a benevolent all-powerful ideal society that would serve as the beacon for all humankind.

For all those interested in the secret machinations that often occur behind political movements, Red Shambhala proves impossible to put down! Blackmail, ritualistic blood sacrifice, Tantric "avenging" lamas, fiery psychic visions from masters of a Great White Brotherhood and a magical black stone that fell from heaven, Red Shambhala reveals that real-life history is at times far stranger than fiction.

Are Tablets Any Good for Serious Reading? | Think Tank | Big Think:

"In our dizzying rush to acquire and acclimate to new technologies and software, which are being thrown at us by developers faster than many of us can figure out how to use them, it is easy to lose sight of the fact that these things are tools for our use (when useful), not challenges that we’re supposed to live up to. And that, like all tools, they’re good for some things and not so good for others"

Higgs Boson May Be Real, Just Don't Call It the 'God Particle' - Yahoo! News:

" It's the last undiscovered particle in the Standard Model, the theory reputed to explain the behavior of particles, which has led to the media dubbing it the "God particle," even though scientists resent the name. "I hate that “God particle’ term," one member of the CERN team in Europe said last December. "The Higgs is not endowed with any religious meaning. It is ridiculous to call it that." "

Argument from ignorance - encyclopedia article about Argument from ignorance.

Your argument is invalid.Image via Wikipedia
Argument from ignorance - encyclopedia article about Argument from ignorance.:

"Argument from ignorance, also known as argumentum ad ignorantiam or appeal to ignorance, is an informal logical fallacy. It asserts that a proposition is necessarily true because it has not been proven false (or vice versa). This represents a type of false dichotomy in that it excludes a third option: there is insufficient data and the proposition has not yet been proven to be either true or false.[1] In debates, appeals to ignorance are sometimes used to shift the burden of proof."

Serial Killer Whisperer | Story of Tony Ciaglia | Pete Earley | Pete Earley:

"His brain damage also required him to take countless pills to control his emotions.
Abandoned and shunned by his friends, he began writing to serial killers on a whim and discovered that the same traumatic brain injury that made him an outcast to his peers now enabled him to connect emotionally with notorious murderers. Soon many of America’s most dangerous psychopaths were revealing to him heinous details about their crimes—even those they’d never been convicted of.
The killers opened up to him, trusted him, and called him a “best friend.”"

Song of the Crown

my son lies unconcious, bleeding and unattended.
it's not clear what he would have wanted,
but it is clearly not something i would have asked for.

we witness the loss of a battle which our masters bemoan
as if their blood flows onto the sand mingling with ours.
an ending they should have planned for but we could not.

we do not know if the enemy rejoices in our wretchedness
for the enemy is not to be found.

clearly i am meant to be king.

clearly it is my song.

Titi Celia

visiting my 86 year-old aunt is a trying experience.

she's very grateful for the visit,
fawningly attentive but if i happen to remind her of anything that sets her off,
then she turns relentlessly abusive.

Still, i'm grateful to have her, if only because i love her.

Tea with Stalin’s Daughter « LRB blog:

I should have addressed the envelope to ‘Lana Peters’ at 280 Ladbroke Grove, but I didn’t,
and the package I sent out from the London Review’s offices in the spring of 1992 was instead addressed to Svetlana Allilueva.

Several days later, I heard that she was angry I’d used her better-known name.
Worse, a story then appeared in the Evening Standard, which said that Stalin’s daughter was living in a halfway house in Notting Hill.

Had I helped blow her cover? I apologised. She asked me to tea.
